Homemade Taco Seasoning
Skip the seasoning packet and make your own homemade taco seasoning with spices you probably already have in your pantry.
Making taco seasoning at home is quick, budget-friendly, and lets you control exactly what goes into your food. You can adjust the salt, spice, and heat to fit your family's taste—and there are no mystery ingredients or unnecessary additives.
This is the seasoning blend I use for tacos, taco soup, and other Mexican-inspired meals.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper, optional
Directions
- Add all of the seasonings to a small bowl and stir until thoroughly combined.
- Add the seasoning mixture to ground beef, chicken, turkey, venison, or your favorite taco filling.
- Stir well and season to taste.
🌶️ Dinner With Durf Tip
Like things a little spicier? Add the optional cayenne pepper. For a milder blend, leave it out completely.
Make a Big Batch
This recipe is easy to double, triple, or even quadruple.
Making a larger batch means you'll have homemade taco seasoning ready whenever you need a quick dinner. Store it in an airtight spice jar or container in a cool, dry pantry.
Just remember to shake or stir the mixture before using it, since the spices can settle during storage.
It's Not Just for Tacos!
I also use this seasoning to add flavor to:
- Taco soup
- Chicken
- Venison
- Roasted vegetables
- Black beans
- Rice
- Soups
- Scrambled eggs
- Taco Salad
It's an easy pantry staple that can replace those little taco seasoning packets and lets you season your food exactly the way you like it.
