The Durf Spice Cabinet
A little spice can change everything.
Spices are one of the easiest ways to turn a simple meal into something that tastes like you spent all day in the kitchen. And the best part? You don't need a cabinet overflowing with expensive bottles to make amazing food.
I've learned that making my own spice blends and rubs can save money, taste better, and give me much more control over what's going into my food.
Let's be honest—those little bottles of seasoning at the grocery store can add up quickly. When you make your own blends, you can buy the spices you actually use, mix them in the quantities you need, and adjust the flavors to your liking. Want more garlic? Add it. A little more heat? Go for it. Less salt? That's completely up to you.
Not All Spices Are Created Equal
I'll admit it—I used to be guilty of buying the cheapest spices I could find.
And while there are plenty of spices I've happily picked up at discount stores, I've also learned that sometimes quality really does make a difference.
Some spices are worth spending a little more on, especially when you're using them as a major part of a recipe. If I can't grow or make something myself, I'll sometimes turn to a quality spice shop for the ingredients I want.
But this isn't about having the most expensive spice cabinet.
It's about knowing what you're buying, finding what works for you, and making your kitchen work smarter.
Let's Make Our Own
This is where you'll find my recipes for homemade spice blends, seasoning mixes, rubs, flavored salts, and other ways to add big flavor to your cooking.
I'll share the combinations I love, ways to use them, and ideas for making your own instead of reaching for another store-bought bottle.
Because sometimes all a recipe needs is a little something extra.
And around here, that usually starts with a pinch of this, a shake of that, and a whole lot of flavor.
Welcome to The Durf Spice Cabinet.
